How to Create a Website

Welcome to our step-by-step guide to setting up your website. This guide will provide you with enough information to get started even if this is all completely new to you

To get started you are going to need two things a Domain Name and a web hosting service

Step 1: Pick a Domain Name

Domain Name

Picking your domain name is the first step to creating your online presence. By choosing a domain name you are giving your website a memorable address making it easier for people to find you online.

Having your own domain name looks professional and allows you to create email accounts that are far more personal than generic Gmail or Yahoo offerings.

If you are building a business website choose a domain name that matches your business name or represents what your main business is. For example ours is yoursiteishere.co.uk

If you’re planning to set up a personal website then you can be as creative as you like.

Domain names normally end with an extension like .co.uk, .com or .net. However there is a huge range of different extensions like .info, .club and .farm

However you do not own a domain name forever. Instead you register to use it for an agreed period of time, usually 2 years though you can change that. Near the end of that period you will be offered the chance to re-register again. If you choose not to that domain will become free for someone else to register.

Step 2: Select a Web Hosting Service

Web Hosting Service

This is the service that connects your site to the internet. It's the server your website is held on and the place people are directed to whenever they enter your domain name into their browser or click on a link from something like Google.

At Your Site Is Here we aim to provide the best possible home for your website using the latest tech to deliver reliability and performance you can depend on.

We offer three distinct hosting packages.

Our Email Only option is perfect if you want your own personalised email address but not interested in a website.

The Starter package provides pocket-friendly hosting for a small websites or beginners creating their first site.

Step 3: Build Your Website

Build Your Website

Once you've bought your domain name and set up your hosting now it’s time to get your website up and running. There are several ways to do this. You could pay someone to build it for you, you could build it from scratch yourself or you could use a CMS (Content Management System) like WordPress.

A Content Management System is a user-friendly platform that helps you build your website and managing your own online content. Of all the CMS systems available we recommend WordPress. WordPress is by far the most popular and its completely free.

Both our Starter and Pro come complete with one click WordPress installs that set up a basic website you can then configure to suit your needs.

Once installed there are literally thousands of detailed guides on how to use WordPress on the internet to help you create your perfect site.
